What is lateral epicondylitis / tennis elbow?
Lateral Epicondylitis, commonly known as Tennis Elbow, is an injury of the forearm tendons that attach to the elbow at the lateral epicondyle. These forearm muscles and tendons function to raise and straighten your wrist and hand.
What causes tennis elbow?
Tennis Elbow is a common overuse injury occurring after repetitive motion of the hand and wrist, similar to playing tennis. Although it is referred to as Tennis Elbow, the injury is certainly not limited to athletes. Tennis elbow can occur from repetitive motions in the workplace, home, or playing field.
What are the symptoms of tennis elbow?
The inflamed tendons cause pain and stiffness at the elbow, making daily activities difficult. Swelling and redness may also occur depending on the severity of the injury.
What is the best way to treat tennis elbow?
Tennis elbow can be treated with rest, ice, compression, but can sometimes require surgery. Compression is an important tool to alleviate pain and enhance the recovery of the inflamed tendons.
