Osgood Schlatter Disease Causes and Pain Relief

What is Osgood-Schlatter?

Growing, active adolescents frequently develop Osgood-Schlatter disease, a painful bump below the kneecap that can develop as the patellar tendon pulls on the growth plate at the top of the tibia. Although this condition generally resolves on its own, BioSkin’s Patellar Tendon Strap tendon strap can help reduce pain.

What causes Osgood-Schlatter?

Active children place a great amount of stress on the growth plate in the knee due to the size difference of the surrounding muscle groups during growth spurts.

What is the best treatment of Osgood-Schlatter?

Usually, the disease will resolve itself in about 12-24 months, or when the growth spurts begin to slow. During this phase, use a patellar tendon strap (shown below) to reduce pressure on the tendon and alleviate pain.
